Staying In a Haunted Hotel-Essex – I Don’t know about you? But for me… I have always wanted to spend a night in a Haunted Hotel in Essex. Travelling to Colchester, Essex for an event with my fellow blogger Donna, from Like Love Do. Wisely deciding to stay overnight in a local hotel. Because we were going to a Cocktail’s and Cake’s event at The Slug and Lettuce.
Having no idea where we could spend the night? As both of us had never gone out in Colchester. Donna found the historic hotel The Red Lion Inn, On Booking.com which was naturally the closest to the event that we were carefully reviewing.
Brook Red Lion Hotel ***
On arrival at the Brook Red Lion Inn. I instantly recognized the Haunted Hotel in Essex. As I was creating my previous post Creating A Bucket List on my website. “Honestly” I have always wanted to spend the night in a Haunted Hotel. Providing an official website where they inform of Haunted Hotel Rooms you can stay around the country. Therefore, I was feeling so fortunate to be staying in one.
Built – Haunted Hotel
Brook Red Lion is a Haunted Hotel in Essex. Located in the dear heart of Colchester town Britain’s oldest recorded town. The historic hotel was traditionally built in 1495. The historical building still has its original Tudor features and wooden beams throughout. Along with the original rooms. The Inn now obtain a grade I listed building.
HOTEL & ROOMS – Haunted Hotel
Standing in front of The Red Lion Inn, you walk leisurely through the Large wood doors which always remain open. Instantly noticing some small boutiques shops and a walkthrough. There is a stable door to your right of you. This is undoubtedly the private entrance to the Haunted Hotel in Essex– Brook Red Lion.
Carefully pushing the doors open, greeted by private stairs. However, there is not a working lift. As you walk up the grand staircase, up to the official reception. You can not help but be genuinely impressed by the magnetic beans. You walk through a door to your left to the reception area. We were greeted enthusiastically by Daniel who was working at the reception. Being active bloggers, we consistently ask typical loads of key questions, which Dan was more than willing to correctly answer.
The historic coaching inn a fabulous historical building. They offer a single, double, twin and a four poster. There is a restaurant offering traditional dishes. A fabulous bar, with all the traditional coaching Inn setting. With the original wood beamed ceilings. 24-hour room service. Parking is available at the NCP on Osborne Street. At a cost of £4.50 per 24 hours.
Willingly staying in room 4 in the most historic part of the building. Haunted Hotel in Essex, is a 3-star hotel. The room looked tired and dated. Looking past the room, to appreciate the unique history. With the brilliant beams throughout the room.
However sadly, we did not encounter any ghosts at Brook Lion Inn. I did sleep very well and the bed was extremely comfortable. Breakfast was excellent, and we only paid £25.00 per person for bed and breakfast.
GHOSTS AT BROOK RED LION INN
ALICE CATHERINE MILLAR – Haunted Hotel
Local people have reported having encountered her ghost as far back a the 1800s. It has been said that her ghost terrified the owner of the inn back then, he secured the door to her room bricked up. Sincerely hoping it would stop the haunting, but Alice continued to persistently haunt the inn.
Guests at the historic Haunted Hotel-Essex. Have reported, weird going’s on and seeing her ghost mostly in principal room’s 5,6 and 10. She has also been seen in the gourmet kitchen and walking to her room. Which is still blocked off from the 1800s. One of the managers at the hotel has scarcely spoken to the ghost of Alice. As she inquired “if he was Ok”?
HOODED MONK – Haunted Hotel
A notable figure of a hooded monk has been undoubtedly seen, mostly during the early hours of the morning. He is mainly seen around the reception area and the private corridors. The ghost is genuinely believed to be a monk who died in a fire several hundred years ago. The monk had been trying to save some children that were in his care at the time of the firer.
SMALL BOY – Haunted Hotel
However, a numerous sighting of a small boy who has seen in the parliament room. He has been instantly caught serval times appealing in photos taken by guests at the Haunted Hotel in Essex.
You may want to grab a fabulous cocktail or two at the Slug and Lettuce, which is a two-minute walk from the hotel.

You are brave, I could never spend the night in a haunted house. I did visit a couple here in Arizona during the daytime but never at night. I am such a chicken.
This would be kind of fun I think.
